At a Glance a2i
a2i's Journey at a Glance (2006-2024)
The declaration of the UN-ITU hosted WSIS (World Summit on the Information Society) conference in Tunisia in 2005, advocated for digital transformation of government services as essential; along with reforms in the service delivery process, to make government services equitable, transparent, and free from harassment. In line with this, the following year the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, fully funded by UNDP Bangladesh, initiated a project called the ‘Access to Information (a2i) Programme’. The project formally commenced in October 2006 and the Prime Minister's Office became the implementing agency.
To create an inclusive society free from discrimination through the use of information technology, a2i has been working under the supervision of the Cabinet Division, Information and Communication Technology Division, with the support of UNDP Bangladesh, to provide fast, transparent, hassle-free, and affordable services to people from all walks of life.
a2i is assisting in an unprecedented transformation by enhancing the efficiency of public service delivery and fostering a people-friendly innovation culture that makes services more inclusive, affordable, reliable, and accessible. The main objective of these activities is to offer more qualitative and satisfactory services by reducing time, cost, and visits traditionally required by citizens to avail of such services, thereby bridging the digital divide.
With the motto ‘leave no one behind,’ a2i has gradually expanded its activities and priority areas. In 2020, the project's name was changed from ‘Access to Information’ to ‘Aspire to Innovate.’
